About the Artist

With a passionate belief in the power of art to transform our state of mind, and an innate sensitivity to the landscape of human feeling, Elyssa Wortzman's exuberant paintings reach out and envelop the viewer in her colour-saturated world. Wortzman's most recent body of work, Les Couleurs de Mes Rêves (The Colours of My Dreams) follows on the success of her 2002 solo exhibition, Les Couleurs de France, in Toronto. In Mes Rêves, Wortzman transforms her sights, thoughts and memories of the world into brilliant dreamscapes.

The desire to communicate with the viewer finds a voice through the immediacy of her lively brushwork, curving lines and direct interaction with the subject matter. By introducing words to many of her pieces, Wortzman further engages us in her world; from the familiar shopping list to the personal fragment of a love poem, the written word is interwoven in her stories, revealing core emotions and truths.

Elyssa Wortzman is "amongst a select few" (North Toronto Post). Her work shows a refreshing ability to move from the representational to the expressive to the abstract with strength and equanimity.

Wortzman's work can be found in corporate and private collections in Toronto, New York and Paris. Recent exhibitions include Wallpower Art (May 2003) and the 2002 Home & Style Studio Tour and Sale. Corporate collections include CIBC Mellon, Shibley Righton LLP and Carreg Management Consulting, Inc. She also creates unique and meaningful memories of wedding ceremonies for that special gift or as part of a couple's plan to capture their celebration.

Wortzman has developed her craft through teaching and the inspiration derived from working intensively in close communion with other artists. For additional information about the artist and her exhibitions and collections see the Artist's Bio or contact the artist directly.
